Government Influence

The BWF aims to maintain and strengthen our relationships with Government to articulate the industry's need in a changing business and built environment by:
Strengthening the BWF’s relationships that influence advisors to government departments
Ensuring that members needs and concerns are represented
Establishing BWF market data as a credible resource for member, Government and industry-wide campaigns
In the first quarter of 2024 we had a fairly active schedule which resulted in securing a meeting with the Minster for Housing in march 2024, however our public affairs programme halted for 6 months due to the General Election. It restarted in the Autumn once the new Labour cabinet had been appointed with the aim to develop new relationships with Government and Parliamentarians for securing meetings in 2025. Our key messaging for the new Labour Government:
Support the development of fire safety regulatory system that has fire and building safety, as well as the competency of individuals installing construction products at its core
Demonstrate that timber products are safe by continuing to highlight the positive performance of timber construction products and the benefits to third party certification and testing
Position timber as the sustainable product of choice in the construction industry to help the government achieve its Net Zero target
